when we model basement wall, How load transfer happens??
I am designing mat foundation, if we import the Etab model with basement wall in safe, then the safe makes the wall as a deep beam, so that there is no punching check , how to ensure the footing is safe in the punching in that case.
Here, I have attached the simple study model, in this model in the first case I haven't divided the wall and see the joint reaction. In second model I have divided the wall, and see the joint reaction.
I am confused, what is the best option for taking the load, while designing the mat foundation, either to divide ( how many??) or not to divide.
if we dont divide then the punching shear ratios will be high under Column
2. Next question.
we provide the stiff slab propery same as column dimension while modelling in the SAFE. Should we have to draw the stiff slab property in the place where basement wall is present?
Hope you get my question ... Looking forward to hear your answer.. Thank you so much sir
A few points that you can consider.
1) If your question is on meshing the wall, you have to do that. The loads are line loads and it is not concentrated on one place.
2) It is not always needed to integrate the super structure and the foundations.
3) For smaller models and regular use, you may not even need safe for foundation analysis. You can do it in any generic software etabs/staad and then zone the moments and decide the steel quickly.
4) Punching you can also quickly check by one step process using excel or by hand
